Pricing and Booking Questions
Money questions come up first on almost every call, so they lead here too. Nothing below involves guessing, because the price always lands on paper before the tools come out.
Call (07) 3067 4276How do I get a price before any work starts?
You get a fixed quote before any work starts, so we look over the job, write the price down, and no tool comes out until you approve the figure you will pay.
Can you come out the same day?
Call early and we'll do our best to reach you same-day where we can, because a morning ring always leaves more room in the diary than an afternoon one.
How do I pay once the job is done?
Payment happens on the spot by card or EFTPOS once the work is finished, so there is no invoice to wait on and nothing left owing once the van pulls away.
Which suburbs do you work in?
The van runs this suburb and the neighbours around it, including Ferny Hills, Ferny Grove, Keperra and The Gap, along with every street from the Cedar Creek valley up to the ridge.
Service Questions
The service side covers everything from a weeping tap to a full gas fit-out. At the last census, 99.7 per cent of homes here were separate houses, so most of our work happens in big detached family homes rather than units.
Call (07) 3067 4276What plumbing work are you licensed for?
Water, drainage and gas work is carried out under QBCC No: 15024607, which covers the plumbing and drainage and gasfitting licence classes, and that number appears wherever licensing comes up.
Who owns the water main and sewer in my street?
Urban Utilities looks after the public water mains and sewers under the street, while everything from the connection point back towards your house stays on your side of the deal to maintain.
Do you fix hot water systems as well as pipes?
Yes, we repair and replace hot water systems, and with the average household here sitting at 3.2 people at the last census, a dead heater in a multi-bathroom home gets treated as urgent.
Can you clear blocked drains and sewers?
We clear blocked drains, sewers and stormwater lines, and we can run a camera through the pipe afterwards to show you whether bush roots or a settled joint caused the choke.
Emergency Questions
Some calls can't sit in a diary until next week. On a hillside estate the static mains pressure runs higher on the lower lots, which is exactly where braided hoses and relief valves cop the hardest punishment.
Call (07) 3067 4276What counts as a plumbing emergency?
Water you can't switch off, a loo spilling across the floor, no hot water for a full household, or any smell of gas: those are the calls that jump the queue ahead of booked jobs.
What should I do if I smell gas inside?
Leave the property and call from outside, and don't flick switches or light anything on the way out, because a gas smell is never a find-it-yourself job, so ring once you're clear.
Should I turn off the mains tap before you arrive?
Yes, shut off the water at the meter if you can reach it safely, because a split pipe or a burst braided hose keeps pouring until the supply is closed at that point.
My toilet is spilling over. What do I do first?
Stop the cistern's isolation tap or close the stop tap at the meter, keep people off the wet floor, and ring us, because water crossing a tiled room spreads through the house fast.
Local Conditions and Booking
This ridge asks a lot of its pipes: the ground is shallow and stony, and summer storm cells break over the bush slopes behind the estate. Those conditions shape most of the answers below.
Call (07) 3067 4276Why do hot water systems here fail in winter?
Cold snaps do the damage, because chilled night air settles into the Cedar Creek valley after dark, and the units fitted in the 2000s releases are now twenty years into their working life.
Can bush roots get into my sewer pipes?
They can, because patches of kept bushland and green corridors run near plenty of lots here, and any joint that weeps in a sewer or stormwater line invites those roots in to probe it.
Does creek flooding reach many houses?
Council's 2022 creek flood extent takes in only a scatter of homes near Levitt Road, Ross Road, Windsor Drive and Canvey Road, and the 1974 and 2011 river floods never reached this far.
How do I book a plumber in Upper Kedron?
Ring (07) 3067 4276, tell us what's happening and where, and we'll set a time; if it can't wait, say so up front and we'll aim to have someone out today.
